Cannon demonstrations will be provided by Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites. Demonstrations will be conducted in living history attire. Wearing the traditional uniforms of a Revolutionary war soldier of 1780, during America’s fight for independence.

The cannon that will be fired is named Thor, named after the god of thunder. Thor is fully functional replica of a Model Year 1780, 6 pound field gun. Thor has been used for exhibition/ceremonial artillery firing demonstrations with Georgia State Parks for the past 33 years.

Additional information about Thor:
Thor is called a "field gun" because of the type of wooden carriage, or "truck" that the barrel sits on. A field gun carriage is designed to be easily transportable and moved on campaign and situated on the field of battle wherever the tactics of the day dictated. A field gun carriages wheels are chest high, and the axle has enough clearance to clear obstacles on the rugged roads of the day. It is called a six pounder as it sized to shoot a 6 pound cannon ball.
