Flint River Fresh is promoting health and wellness by creating School Gardens, Community Gardens, Urban Farms, and Community Orchards in areas with limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables. The Starbuck Learning Farm will be an urban mini-farm that teaches the basics of urban farming using conservation practices such as cover crops, crop rotation, drip irrigation, composting, etc. We will grow seasonal crops, donate the harvest to hunger relief organizations in the area, and create an outdoor classroom for hands-on learning.
This site will consist of raised garden beds, in-ground planting, composting area, and a fruit orchard. This space will be used for harvesting food, cooking demonstrations, and educating individuals on small scale farming.
It will serve as an inspiration to other communities who are looking for solutions to feed their communities and and provide access to fresh fruits and vegetables to our most vulnerable. It will show how underutilized land can be revitalize through gardening and help improve the overall health of a neighborhood.
